Periodontics

A periodontist is a dental specialist whose practice focuses on the treatment of diseases of the supporting and surrounding tissues of the teeth (primarily the gums).

Dr. William "Skip" Broome is our staff Periodontist. Periodontal disease includes gingivitis and periodontitis and involve bacterial infections that affect your gums and bone structure supporting your teeth. Dr. Broome also is actively involved in treating patients with TMJ/TMD disorders, dental implant cases, and other surgical procedures and diagnosing abnormal oral conditions (oral pathology).

Gingivitis is most easily noted by red, swollen gums that bleed easily. Gingivitis is corrected by practicing better oral hygiene care and professional oversight. Left untreated, Gingivitis can progress to Periodontitis. Periodontitis is far more destructive and may lead to the permanent destruction of the gum tissue and bone structure surrounding your teeth. This can eventually cause you to lose your teeth.
